Genome Dynamics in Bacterial and Human.
By the time of the inauguration of the Nitrogen Fixation Research Center the laboratory of R. Palacios found that the genes coding for nitrogenase were reiterated in Rhizobium. This discovery started a research line aimed to understand the organization and dynamics of bacterial genomes.
Program's contribution and future
The main contribution of this program has been the demonstration of a novel approach to manipulate the bacterial genome: natural genomic design.This approach allows to obtain derivative bacterial strains with alternative genomic architectures.
This program is currently starting a new research line focused in the Dynamics of the human genome.
